Family Time

Family Time

My name is Ed Miller.
This winter, I had the privilege of sitting around the table with one of my favorite families. I got there after the meal was already underway so I came right in the middle of a great discussion. The youngest son was telling his dad some things that his teacher has been pushing to the class. He's in Middle School. It was a very anti-Christian message and the son was looking for advice as to how to respond.

This young man is devoted to serving the Lord and his dad is just as devoted to supporting him and coaching him. It was great to see a dad explaining the different worldviews at play and clarifying a Biblical worldview for his son. The older brother got involved as well and I mostly just sat and observed. It was awesome.

We're on a grand mission. That mission is equipping the next generation to live out the Great Commission in the world. It’s a huge mission and parents are critical to making it happen. Yes, that's you!

“I just want to have one real friend.” That’s what one young man shared as we sat in a circle during cabin time at the WyldLife Winter Weekend at Young Life's Lake Champion. Young people want to know that they’re loved and they want a place to belong. What’s the best arena for this to happen? It’s the family. They're dealing with peer pressure, self esteem, questions about faith, and other issues in the ever-growing complexity that is our modern world. And this is all happening in a "sex-crazed" and materialistic culture. Young people are struggling today to find their identity and a purpose for their lives. We need to show them how the Bible addresses these desires and how much Jesus loves them and wants to lead them.

We’re partnering with HomePointe and together we’re working to equip churches to develop a culture of intentional Christian families where the home is the primary context for spiritual development. This comes from a command in Scripture in Deuteronomy 6:6-8.

These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
