Have You Heard of the "Different" book?

Have You Heard of the Different book?
Ultimate Blog Challenge: Day 20

Let's continue on with the theme from my last article. I started preaching about the value of every human being because we are all created in God's image. We may not all be on the right track right now, but we have worth and dignity.

My friend Erik works with folks who would be considered "different" by most people. He works with the homeless in Trenton, the capital city of New Jersey. I lead a small group at our church and we're exploring the possibilities of working with Erik and his ministry. Erik describes ministry to the homeless as working in the ruins of society. Many of the homeless are without the relationships of people who care and support a person. They don't have that. They also lack a sense of worth and dignity. The ministry supports these folks with food, clothing, and more while providing friendship and genuine care. It's what we call "the ministry of presence." The ultimate goal is to share the reality that God loves and values each human being. In fact, God took on human form to bring new life to those who would respond to his call to repent and believe.

I'm reading a book by Sally and Nathan Clarkson. Nathan has faced a lot of challenges in his life and was considered "different." He has a creative personality and he has struggled to function with his ADHD, OCD, ODD and more. Of course his parents struggled to parent him as well. The subtitle of the book is "The Story of an Outside-the-Box Kid and the Mom Who Loved Him." It's an awesome story of how Nathan and Sally have embraced Nathan's unique challenges as a gift from God rather than just a problem.

If you're able, you're going to want to watch Sally and Nathan on the Today Show on NBC on Tuesday 1/24 at 10:00 am. I'll be watching. Please join me. I'll be in NYC on Wednesday and I'm hoping to do a Facebook LIVE Interview with Nathan that day. We're working on the details.

Suggested Action: Learn more about the Different book and watch the Today Show Interview on Tuesday 1/24 at 10:00 am. Leave a comment with your thoughts.

We're offering a FREE eBook right now to any parent that wants to examine their parenting strategy. The book is called CHANGE: Helping Any Child of Any Age with Any Problem.
