2015 Starts with a Bang!

Relections from Ed Miller …

We're hitting the ground running in 2015 with the launch of a new book by Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller, RN, BSN from Thomas Nelson Publishing. Motivate Your Child: A Christian Parent's Guide to Raising Kids Who Do What They Need to Do Without Being Told. That's some title, but doesn't that sound amazing? Isn't that what you want for your kids?

Scott and Joanne have written a lot of books on parenting. You may be wondering what's new about this new title? That's a great question. Let me take you on a little journey.

Parenting Is Heart Work gave us the Biblical foundation and a call to implement this revolutionary philosophy of parenting. Good and Angry helped us understand why we get frustrated and angry when our kids don't listen and how to develop practical and effective instruction and correction routines that change the heart. The Christian Parenting Handbook helped us take a look at 50 parenting issues that we face in day-to-day life and how to address them with a "parent the heart" approach. Say Goodbye to Whining and Complaining and Bad Attitudes in You and Your Kids gave us tools to build strong relationships in the family using the concept of honor.

Over the past 5 years Scott and Joanne been doing a study of the conscience and the work of the Holy Spirit in the Bible. They've been digging deeply into the way God works to bring about change in a person's life. They've made some discoveries that will help parents make an even greater impact on their child's inner life. Here's what Scott and Joanne have to say about this book.

“This is the most important and most strategic book I’ve written. The greatest gift parents can give to their kids is a strong conscience and a vibrant faith. Kids become internally motivated and their lives open up dramatically. Parents are amazed when they see the changes.”
—Dr. Scott Turansky

“Kids who are strong-willed don't typically respond to the reward/punishment approaches commonly used. That's because they're internally motivated already. This book will help you guide their internal motivation to do the right thing.”
—Joanne Miller, RN, BSN

Learn What Internal Motivation is
and How to Develop it in Your Child
You will learn:
• How to build a strong conscience to strengthen internal motivation
• How faith changes kids in practical, down-to-earth ways
• Ways to help self-focused kids think of others
• A strategy to help kids who tend to blame, rationalize, or defend
• Ways to use consequences for heart change
• Specific heart-based strategies to develop responsibility and initiative
“We need more books like Scott and Joanne’s—books that
coach parents to develop strong character in their children
that will last the rest of their lives.”

—Alec Hill, President of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA

Scott and Joanne have been promoting and teaching the "parent the heart" approach for more than 20 years now. The launch of this book is just another phase in our plan to revolutionize the way parents work with their children. A new book launch creates a window of opportunity to bring together many resources to extend the reach to more parents. We're going to "strike while the iron is hot."

The release date is January 27, 2015. We're now in the Pre-Launch phase where you can Pre-Order the book from any retailer. Pre-orders help these outlets determine how the book is going to sell, so we want them to know it's going to be a big hit.
In order to motivate parents to Pre-Order the book, we're offering  a Package of package of resources for FREE! In the next post on this blog, I'll tell you more about the resources in this bonus pack. There are video, audio and print items designed to be used on a variety of devices. You can also go to the Book Website now.

You may be wondering what we'll be doing on this blog during the launch. Here's some of what we'll be doing.

In the next post, I'll also tell you more about some of the other promotions and campaigns we have planned for this launch. Here's a teaser.

  • Pre-Launch Giveaway with a Go-Pro and many other items.
  • Facebook Party on Thursday January 29. The top giveaway item will be Housekeeping for One Year. ($1500 value!)
  • Thunderclap Campaign
  • Selfie Splash
We'll be using some cutting edge strategies. We'll tell you about the Thunderclap Campaign very soon.

Once a week, we'll post an article by Dr. Scott Turansky where he'll share content and stories from the book. We'll be talking about how to motivate your child over the next couple of months. This will include questions for discussion here on the blog and on our Facebook Page. You're not going to want to miss a single post over the coming weeks.

  1. We’ll try our first thunderclap campaign this month. This is a new strategy to blast out a message that "storms" the internet by posting our message all over social media at the very same time. We need 100 people involved to activate the campaign, but the number of participants is unlimited. We’ve set Tuesday January 20, 2015 at 7:00 am Eastern Time for our Thunderclap. Here’s a further explanation from Thunderclap.

Social media is an easy way to say something, but it’s a difficult way to be heard. Thunderclap is the first-ever crowdspeaking platform that helps people be heard by saying something together. It allows a single message to be mass-shared, flash mob-style, so it rises above the noise of your social networks. By boosting the signal at the same time, Thunderclap helps a single person create action and change like never before. Thunderclap assures us that they will not spam all of our friends. Click on the graphic in this post to join the Thunderclap!

    1. Hi Melissa! I don't think you'll be able to get the PDF to work on your Kindle. Let me know if you're able to do that. I suggest you ask that question on the Launch Team FB Group. Someone will know. If we get the min. 100 people for the Thunderclap, it will activate. We can still add as many people as possible. At 7:00 am EST on 1/20 Thunderclap posts on everyone's wall, tweets, etc. all at the very same time. We'll see how it works!

  12. What a wonderful article about such wonderful experts!! ALL of the books written by these two are FANTASTIC PARENTING TOOLS, as well as FABULOUS CHRISTIAN GROWTH BOOKS - I honestly have grown so much as a mom, a Christian, and a person, just from reading these books and putting into practice all of the wisdom that they teach us! It is a HUGE BENEFIT for our kids (I have twins), as well as for our whole family, and for our own personal growth as well! I thank you all for sharing your expertise, your wisdom, your hearts, and your wonderful insights with us to help us grow, and to help us help our children to grow closer to the Lord, and to be compassionate, Godly people. What a bright light you all are in this dark world, and I thank you with all my heart, and am honored beyond words to be a small part of this launch team to help spread the word and make this world a better place, one heart at a time!!

  13. This idea of internal or intrinsic motivation is something I've been trying to get at with my kids for a long time. Very excited for the potential with this book as my children are now old enough to really take ownership or both their actions and faith!
