A Revolution in Parenting

A Thought from Ed Miller ...

I was privileged to spend this past weekend at Young Life's Lake Champion in Glen Spey, New York. This was their annual Family Camp and they asked me to do an optional parenting worship each morning. It was an experiment and none of us knew if 2 parents would show up or 25. I seriously wondered if anyone would arrive at 8:00 am to listen to me talk about parenting!

30-40 parents showed up on Saturday morning and 25-30 parents and teens joined me on Sunday morning. We had a great time together.

My first workshop was titled "Revolutionize Your Family: Learn to Parent Your Child's Heart." I started by sharing that we are leading a parenting revolution. We want parents to see the damage that we are doing to our children by overusing behavior modification. There is a great need to learn to parent our child's heart which will shape their character for the future.

I was reminded that we can talk a lot about how to parent the heart, but we dare not forget that the Lord changes hearts. One young man of about 12 years old asked me on Sunday morning how he could learn to do the right thing. I encouraged him to ask the Lord to change his heart and then start practicing doing the right thing. Another mom, encouraged him to keep God's word in his heart. It was a very special moment.
