A Thought from Dr. Scott Turansky...
A powerful new focus in world missions is taking place globally and New York City will experience it in full force this fall. You’ll want to know what’s happening and may even want to be a part. Here’s what the 4/14 Window Movement is and why people are getting so excited about it.
The 4/14 Window movement is about a strategic window of time in a person’s life. Dan Brewster from Compassion International noted that 85% of people who come to Christ do so between the ages of four and fourteen. Yet so few resources are devoted to reaching this strategic people group.
Children ages 15 and under comprise one-third of our world’s six-billion people. In developing countries children make up nearly half of the population. Another one billion children may be born in the next decade, many of those into families living in extreme poverty. But you don’t have to look too far to see children. Just look out your window. They are there and they are the future leaders in government, business, church, and their own families. They need Jesus.
Over 15 tracks are now dedicated globally and regionally to reach the next generation with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Education, media, government, and churches are joining hands to reach these children. One of the tracks is the Home and Family Track and it’s purpose is to empower parents to reach their children’s hearts with the profound message of Jesus Christ. After all, many kids leave the faith today, growing out of a childhood commitment to Christ instead of growing into it.
That’s why the 4/14 Family Challenge is coming to NYC this fall. Dr. Scott Turansky, cofounder of the National Center for Biblical Parenting and the North American Regional Facilitator for the 4/14 Family Track says, “More and more parents are recognizing the significance of moral and spiritual training of their children. The church is a powerful support. This conference will bring church leaders together from all over the city to collaborate and partner together to strengthen the family.”
Ever since the family was born it’s been under relentless satanic attack. The challenges are pervasive, even affecting the church worldwide, and render the family wounded as salt and light to the world. To meet this onslaught, the 4/14 Movement is connecting family ministry leaders across the world to rally around the challenge to restore the family to its redemptive purposes.
The target audience for the conference held at All Angels Church in Manhattan is church leaders, resource providers, and parents themselves. The conference is designed with ongoing collaboration in mind. “We don’t want to be a flash in the pan conference where people simply get excited about something big. We want this event to be part of a process for ongoing development of families is the city over time,” says Ed Miller, the conference coordinator. Speakers include Jamaal Bernard, pastor at Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, Graham Scharf, author of The Apprenticeship of Being Human, Rev. Maurice Winley, youth mentor and community leader in Harlem and the Associate Minister at Soul Saving Station, and Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller, RN, BSN, co-founders of the National Center for BiblicalParenting.
God is calling us to radically change the way we view children and to respond to their strategic importance and rightful place in His Kingdom. This often ignored and suffering people group can be transformed into a precious window of opportunity. The needs, the nature, and the challenge of raising up a new generation out of the 4/14 Window are addressed at the 4/14 Family Challenge Conference in NYC on October 26, 2013.
